Purpose To identify speech-langauge behavior associated with severe TBI.
Methods Administered 4 subtests of the Neurosensory Center Comprehensive Examination for Aphasia (NCCEA) including visual naming, sentence repetition, word fluency, and token test.
Administered Functional Communication Profile( FCP).
Results 37/125 subjects had classic aphasia
43/125 subjects had dysarthria/subclinical aphasia
45/125 subjects had subclinical aphasia
Treatment
Implications
Linguistic problems exist more than are realized, which should be considered in the assessment and treatment of TBI.
